This is not a &#8220;touch-up&#8221; but a distinct, separate operation to alter or &#8220;fix&#8221; the original surgery. This type of procedure is more complex than the first surgery and requires a surgeon with extensive experience in revisional bMARI-bariatric surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two primary reasons why a patient would need a <strong>gastric sleeve revision<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Inadequate Weight Loss or Weight Regain:<\/strong> This is the most common reason. Over time, the stomach &#8220;sleeve&#8221; can stretch or dilate. When the stomach pouch becomes larger, it allows for larger food portions, reduces the feeling of fullness (restriction), and can lead to a stall in weight loss or significant weight regain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medical Complications:<\/strong> The second most common reason is the development of severe, chronic <strong>acid reflux<\/strong>, also known as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). In some patients, the new &#8220;sleeve&#8221; shape of the stomach creates high pressure, which can force stomach acid up into the oesophagus, causing painful, chronic heartburn and other complications that do not respond to medication.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>As surgeons, we understand that it can be incredibly disheartening to face these challenges after going through the work of a primary surgery.
